Welcome
Practise and Research in Movement Analysis is an organisation committed to promoting research, awareness and understanding of movement as an expressive, communicative, informative and therapeutic process common to all human beings.
Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is the principle framework used to engage in these processes of exploration and within a variety of fields. PRIMA is particularly interested in interdisciplinary collaborations with other professional modalities.
Commitment
PRIMA’s commitment is fulfilled through initiating and collaborating in the following projects:
- Developing the first Laban Movement Analysis training based on the Laban/Bartenieff work in the UK and a series of workshops leading up to the full training.
- Continuing research partnerships on new and existing projects.
- Organising courses and workshops in applications of LMA studies for recent graduates of a range of professional modalities, post-graduate students and professionals from all fields whose business involves movement: art, dance teaching, choreography, business team development, neuroscience and neurobiology, therapy and psychotherapy.
Directors
Kedzie Penfield
In Kedzie’s practice, movement is the bridge between our inner and outer worlds and also a bridge between conflicting languages and cultures. Movement is a cognitive system with a truly universal, shared syntax and so deserving of urgent study.
Susan Scarth
The enriching potential of the LMA/BF framework in teaching and psychotherapy is a constant motivation in Susan’s practice and research. Exploring the meaning of movement assists effective teamwork based on principles of negotiation, collaboration and acceptance of difference.
